Housing & Employment Support in Washington
Support is not a course purchase. This page explains Washington service pathways. For courses, choose the learning path that fits you below.
You don’t have to
know every door.
Finding housing, returning to work, or understanding a program can feel like a lot. Start with what you need. Learn what the options mean—and what to ask next.
This guide is free to read. You do not need to buy a professional training course to ask about support.
What would help you move forward?
I need help finding or keeping a place.
Learn about supportive housing services, local coordinated entry and the difference between help navigating housing and money for housing.
I want to find or keep a job.
Understand how employment support can connect your preferences with job-search, workplace and benefits questions.
I’m not sure which program fits.
You do not have to choose a program name before asking a question. Start with your goal and use the guide below.
Need immediate help? Call 911 for an emergency or 988 for a mental-health crisis. For local resource navigation, contact 2-1-1. Mysti’s is not an emergency service; website messages are not a crisis-response channel.
Similar goals. Different kinds of support.
These programs are not interchangeable. Being involved with one does not automatically qualify you for another.
FCS supportive housing: help with the work of getting and keeping housing
Foundational Community Supports (FCS) is a Washington Apple Health benefit for eligible people. Supportive housing focuses on services that help a person work toward housing goals. Depending on the person’s needs and authorized plan, the work may include developing a housing plan, exploring suitable options, preparing for applications and addressing tenancy-related barriers.
What it is not: FCS supportive housing does not itself pay rent or rental subsidies. A referral does not mean an apartment, voucher or funding has been approved. Housing-service support and financial assistance are separate questions.
A useful next question: “Can you help me understand whether FCS supportive housing fits my situation, what needs to be verified, and who makes the enrollment decision?”
FCS supported employment: support built around your work goals
Supported employment is the employment side of FCS. The starting point is the kind of work you want, your strengths, your preferences and the support you would find useful. Authorized services may help with employment planning, job search, employer connections and support after starting work.
What it is not: It is not a guaranteed job offer or a payment of wages. Employment support does not automatically answer every benefits question. If you are concerned about how work could affect benefits, ask about current official information or qualified benefits counseling before relying on a general answer.
A useful next question: “What employment support might be available for my goals, and who can help me understand my benefits questions?”

Community Choice Guide: an authorized transition or community-stability pathway
Community Choice Guide (CCG) services operate through applicable DSHS long-term-services-and-supports pathways. They can involve help with an authorized community transition or stability plan. The specific program, case-manager authorization, contract and service plan determine what support is available.
What it is not: CCG is not another name for FCS or a general promise of financial assistance. The rules for one DSHS pathway or county cannot simply be applied to every person. If you already have an HCS or other long-term-care case manager, that is an important person to ask about your route.
A useful next question: “Does my DSHS service pathway include Community Choice Guide support, and what authorization would be needed for my goals?”

TAP and HRSN: separate assistance and service rules
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is associated with FCS supportive housing and has its own guidelines for eligible transition-related assistance. Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) services have separate Medicaid program requirements. HCA describes HRSN Housing Transition Navigation as using the existing TAP pathway; HRSN Rent/Temporary Housing is a distinct service.
What it is not: An FCS referral is not approval for a deposit, rent, utilities or a particular purchase. A general program description does not establish which expenses are available for you today. Requirements and administering arrangements can change.
A useful next question: “Which exact assistance pathway applies, what costs may be considered under its current rules, and what written decision is needed before making a commitment?”

Coordinated entry: a local route into participating homelessness resources
Coordinated entry is a local process for access, assessment, prioritization and referrals to participating homelessness resources. Your county’s access points and procedures matter. You may use coordinated entry alongside other support, but each pathway keeps its own rules.
What it is not: Completing an assessment is not the same as receiving a housing offer, joining every housing waitlist or obtaining a voucher. Ask your local access point what your current status means and how to keep your information up to date.
A useful next question: “Where do I access coordinated entry in my county, and what follow-up is expected after an assessment?”

Helpful things to think about
- What you want help with right now.
- Your Washington county and a safe way to contact you.
- Any communication or accessibility needs you want to share.
- Whether you already have a case manager or program contact.
- Questions you want answered before deciding what to do.
Only provide sensitive documents through the appropriate secure process when requested. Do not post diagnoses, identification numbers or client records in a public message.
Ask about services.
Use Mysti’s existing contact route to describe the kind of help you are seeking. Asking does not enroll you, and the guide cannot decide eligibility.
Already receiving services? Contact your assigned case manager. You can also use the existing contact page if you need help finding the right route.

Do I have to buy a course to ask for help?
No. This support guide and service inquiries do not require a training purchase. Current-client learning invitations and paid independent or agency learning are separate access paths.
Does Apple Health coverage mean I am already enrolled in FCS?
No. Coverage, program-specific eligibility and enrollment or authorization are separate checks. Ask who can verify the current requirements for your situation.
Can I ask about housing and employment at the same time?
You can describe both goals. Each service has its own fit, eligibility and enrollment requirements; one approval does not automatically approve the other.
What if I do not know which program to choose?
Start by explaining your goal and asking which pathways may fit. You do not need to diagnose yourself or guess a program category from an online guide.
Is an application or referral a guarantee?
No. A request, referral, assessment, waitlist entry and formal approval mean different things. Ask what status has actually been confirmed and what the next step is.
