Washington Housing Waitlists: What's Open Right Now

A snapshot, not a guarantee

Housing authority waitlists across Washington open and close often, and a status can change the same week we publish this. Every listing below reflects only what we found when we checked each housing authority's official website on September 18, 2026. Before you apply anywhere, confirm the current status directly with that housing authority.

Currently accepting applications

Currently closed

  • King County Housing Authority — the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is closed, and KCHA says it does not have a timeline for reopening.

  • Housing Pierce County (formerly Pierce County Housing Authority) — the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is closed. One project-based list, Orting Senior Housing, is open; contact Housing Pierce County directly for details.

  • Housing Authority of Thurston County — the waitlist is closed and not accepting new applications.

  • Spokane Housing Authority — the Spokane County Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is closed, along with its project-based voucher and homeownership voucher lists. Whitman County's list had a short opening window earlier this month — check the current status directly.

Status unclear — confirm directly with the housing authority

  • Bellingham/Whatcom Housing Authorities — some public housing units showed a targeted opening in August 2026 while other lists were closed. Confirm the current status on their site before applying.

  • Other Washington housing authorities — including Yakima, Vancouver, and Kitsap — we did not independently verify current status for every housing authority in the state. Visit each authority's website directly for the most current information.

More ways to search

A few statewide tools are worth bookmarking alongside any single housing authority's site:

  • WA 2-1-1 — search by need, including housing, at search.wa211.org.

  • HousingSearchNW.org — a free, statewide rental listing search covering Washington.

  • findhelp.org — Washington-specific listings for housing, financial, and other assistance.
